One of the most popular items purchased at Geobunga is Puka Lava pavers, frequently referred to by customers as lava stepping stones. Not only do they come in multiple sizes, but they also come in 5 different textures. They are very popular for several reasons.
Versatility
Puka Lava pavers can be used in so many different ways – garden pathways, lanai flooring, driveways, bases for pottery, grills, or other garden features – the possibilities are endless! Not only are they versatile with their placement, but they can also be used with both grass and pebble joints. They can even be mortar set. If planting grass in between, we recommend a minimum of 3 inches between pavers. This ensures that the grass doesn’t clump up and dry out. Our recommended distance between pavers when using pebbles depends on the size of pebbles used.
Cost-Effectiveness
In many circumstances, when people choose to use Puka Lava pavers, they could also easily pour concrete to accomplish their goal. However, according to manta.com “As our numbers show in 2021 average cost that homeowners paid for [a concrete] pad installation in Honolulu county is between $2,402.00 and $2,614.00.” Compare that to purchasing 25 tumbled 24” Puka Lava pavers for $33.50 per piece. You’re paying just a third of the price you would be paying for the concrete pad.
Fitting to Hawai’i’s Environment
Although Puka Lava pavers fit perfectly in our local Hawai’i landscape, they are surprisingly not from Hawai’i. Harvesting lava in Hawai’i is neither cost-effective nor culturally appropriate. We import pavers from various countries in Asia. Puka Lava mimics the texture of what we frequently call “moss rock”. Our Ka’ena basalt is similar to cut Pāhoehoe.
Fung Associates
One prominent architectural firm in Hawai’i has embraced the benefits of using lava pavers in their projects. McKenna Makizuru, from Fung Associates, shared the following: “Geobunga consistently provides quality products along with wonderful customer service. We always have a positive experience with them on every project.”
